New Stops on Your Local Tasting Tour! – Comox Valley

Why eat local food? There are many answers—from supporting the local economy, promoting sustainability, building community. But most simply, it tastes the best! Summer in the Comox Valley is as delicious as they come, and this season also brings some new businesses serving local food that you will want to make sure you check out:

The Hub Café

First up, THE HUB CAFÉ at 545 Duncan, Courtenay, across from the CV Art Gallery. A stylish renovation and music create an upbeat and welcoming scene, luring in passersby with a menu of hearty sandwiches, smoothies and premium coffee and tea. Ben Eni, with a passion for food and customer service, is trying something new after 20 years of service with Thrifty’s. “I like to eat good food. I like to talk to people about food. I was walking by, saw the lease sign, and the idea to open the café just came to me.” Open the first week of June, in time to greet those enjoying Elevate the Arts. White Whale Public House

New Beginnings

Coming this July, watch for the WHITE WHALE PUBLIC HOUSE opening their doors in the former Monte Christo on the river location. The new operators, Chef Aaron Rail with partners Max Oudenbag and Robin Mckamey, are working to create a full circle concept of a public house, a warm welcome space for dining and socializing, bringing community together, and serving local bounty.  With a revitalized interior and prime patio space, the sheltered water view is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset.  Chef Rail says to expect a flavourful menu built from local seasonal ingredients, including a great selection of BC craft beers.
