I had a great visit
with Daniel and Alexandra from Gladstone Brewing Co. at Mudshark’s on Fourth and Cliffe right here in Courtenay, Comox Valley. You may not of heard of them yet but I predict that very soon they will become an important part of our community. Their plan is for a cool “Brew Lounge” right next door to Mudshark’s in the old Brambles Market location. They will brew beer right on the premises. That is a sweet idea! I can picture myself sitting on the patio on a hot summers evening drinking a local beer from the valley’s first brewery since Surgenor’s closed their doors almost four years ago. It’s about time.
So what about the beer?
Daniel favors the upfront hop flavors of a typical West Coast IPA (India Pale Ale) or the full and rich taste of a Belgium Tripel. Sounds good to me too! I have some great Québec memories of drinking a rich bottle of Chimay paired with a creamy Bleu Bénédictin from Abbaye de Saint-Benoit-du-Lac… oh those monks know how it’s done when it comes to beer and cheese. Daniel and Alexandra, let’s talk menu!
The plans of the couple,
menu included, are still in the formative stage with many decisions yet to be made. I’m going to place my trust in their savvy and enthusiasm to create something very special and unique.
Here’s to a much needed addition to the valley, Gladstone Brewing Co.
